American-V exists to provide a high quality, high value specialist magazine beyond the scope of traditional publications.
American-V was dragged kicking and screaming into the world on 1st April 2001 as the answer to a question that few had asked. Its aim was to quickly become the definitive on-line free web resource for anyone even remotely interested in Harley-Davidsons and the American big Vee experience.
It is the brainchild of ex-BSH staffers Andy Hornsby and Rich King, who bring with them twenty-five years of editorial experience in lifestyle biker, and particularly Harley titles. Andy and Rich have either edited, designed or contributed to All American Heroes, SuperTwins, HOG and Heavy Duty over the years, and the idea of American-V was actually hatched three years ago while discussing the demise of specialist Harley magazines over a bottle of Jack Daniels.
Professionally designed and edited, and employing the recognised and respected talents of some the best writers and photographers on the UK Harley scene, American-V oozes class; emulating the high quality, entertaining, easy-reading and informative style of the illustrious British based Harley magazines that have been its inspiration.
American-V's launch after nine months of editorial and design development signalled the beginning of the second, more public development phase and an initial low-key promotion of the title. It was deemed necessary to remain low-key while any final issues were ironed out, to minimize disruption to the growing readership. That turned out to be a very good decision as it threw up some very interesting challenges, which ultimately culminated in an entire restructuring of the site, along with many stylistic improvements. Alongside the development work, editorial content was being updated on a bi-monthly basis with each issue adding to, rather than replacing, the previous one, building up into a massive on-line editorial resource.
Twelve months down the line, the major development is complete and American-V is moving into its third phase: promotion and advertising.
On-line, we are actively building up reciprocal links with other sites, and building close working relationships with many, as well as being pleased to note that we are highly ranked by the Google search engine.
Readership is improving month-on-month, largely by word-of-mouth and Google, but as we settle into a regular pattern of updating issue-by-issue, we can reallocate the development time towards promoting the developed site properly to make people aware of our presence, confident that they will find something of interest to them within a readable, navigable and frequently updated high quality publication.
Browsing American-V is like getting the latest issue of your favourite Harley magazine every month together with every single back copy as well: the complete book of Everything You Wanted To Know About American V-twins.
